Terms & Conditions
Grant Overview
Individual grants range from $10,000 to $100,000 for projects of 4 to 18 months duration.
Eligibility
- Open to all: No restrictions on career stage, institutional affiliation, or geographic location (apart from countries disallowed under US Law).
- Multiple proposals: There is no limit on the number of proposals a single person may submit but we will fund at most one proposal
- Collaborative proposals: Projects with multiple Principal Investigators are permitted
Funding Structure
- University applicants: University overhead costs are capped at 10% of the total grant amount
- Independent researchers: Successful applicants will be funded directly . Those that require an institutional home may be eligible to be affiliated at Oxford AIGI
- All-inclusive budgets: The requested amount should cover all project costs, including any compute resources required
- Taxes, etc: Grantees are solely responsible for all local taxes, duties, and legal obligations arising from receipt or use of grant funds.
Evaluation & Selection
Proposals will be evaluated by a panel of prominent scientists from industry and academia based on potential impact. Final funding decisions will be made by the Martian team. While we will try to give individual feedback for unsuccessful proposals, most projects should not expect to receive such feedback due to the anticipated volume of requests.
Timeline
In the first round of applications:
- Initial Submission deadline: February 1, 2026
- Decision notification: We aim to make decisions by 1 March 2026
Additional rounds of applications will be opened in the future
Recipient Obligations
- Acknowledgment: All publications resulting from this work must acknowledge Martian's financial support
- Progress reporting: Submit quarterly progress reports during the grant period and a final report upon project completion
